2018

Axie Infinity Presale!

February 2018 - Axie Infinity presale was launched! Players can start adopting their axies, or invite friends and get some free axies as a reward.

Axie Infinity is a game about collecting and raising fantasy creatures called Axie. Despite belonging to the same species, each Axie has its own distinct look and attributes. Some Axies are similar to dogs, while some others are more like cats, fishes, birds, or dragons. Interestingly, some Axies even look like moving trees. Get started with Axie Infinity!

Axie Marketplace — The Market for Axies is open!

March 2018 - The first ever marketplace for axies is launched. After being launched and opened for presale in February 2018, Axie Infinity’s popularity is spreading, nearly 1000 Axies have been sold and the number keeps on increasing. This led to the most anticipated feature for a long time: a marketplace dedicated to axies!

The marketplace has undergone various upgrades since then. Check the marketplace now!

New Features - Gift & Sorting are now online!

March 2018 - Axie Infinity has just updated two new features for players to experience. Now you can spread love to the world by sending Axies to your loved ones using Gift feature. Collecting and keeping track of your axies is now also simpler with the sorting feature.

Update Note: Axie Classes Introduction

April 2018 - Axie Infinity introduced the first 6 classes: Beast, Aquatic, Plant, Bug, Reptile and Bird. Other Special classes were introduced later down the line through breeding.

Japanese axies were also introduced, allowing players to breed axies to get Japanese parts for a limited time. If you missed on breeding some Japanese axies, you can get some now from the marketplace!

New Mechanic: Branching Evolution

April 2018 - Branching Evolution was announced as the addition to Breeding & Battle features. When an axie part is available to evolve, players will have to decide what will that part grow into in the future.

Announcing: Axie Origin Coins

April 2018 - We announced Axie Origin Coins (AOC). These AOC tokens were convertible into the 427 leftover Origin Axies that we’ve stashed away.

Breeding is Live!

May 2018 - After a smooth test run during our beta, Axie Infinity announced the launch of our breeding feature! Players are now able to breed their axies together to produce a lovely new axie baby.

Egg Shop Launch and AgamoGenesis Axies!

May 2018 - Axie Lab was launched with the introduction of AgamoGenesis Axies’ Auction! These are ultra-rare axies with special coloring and bionic parts that they can past down to their children.

Axie Lab Season 1!

June 2018 - Axie Lab finally started with the season 1. With that, Axie Eggs have arrived as well.

The axies obtained from this are tagged as "MEO", which you can purchase from the Marketplace.

Axie Infinity Closed Beta Overview

August 2018 - The first version of Axie battle game was released on a closed beta, available to holders of Origin axies.

Announcing: Axie Infinity Open Beta!

August 2018 - Axie v1 game was released as an open beta, allowing all players to test the game.

Although this game is no longer playable, it paved the way to the development of Axie Classic and Axie Infinity: Origins, which you can play today!

Season 2 of the Axie Lab is Live!

September 2018 - The 2nd Season of Axie Lab went live, allowing players to purchase axies from the lab again.

Announcing: Axie Infinity Mainnet Battle Launch 🎉

October 2018 - After months of testing and refining, we announced the launch of our battle system on Ethereum Mainnet!

Although this game is no longer playable, it paved the way to the development of Axie Classic and Axie Infinity: Origins, which you can play today!

Axie Holiday Event!

December 2018 - We announced an Xmas-themed breeding event, where players were able to get 6 limited edition Xmas parts from breeding axies.

Although you wouldn't be able to breed from these parts anymore, you can still get axies with the parts on the marketplace!

2019

First Land Sale!

January 2019 - We have announced the start of the first land sale, allowing Lunacians to buy a piece of land in Lunacia to build their kingdom upon.

If you missed the land sale, you can still get your first land plot in the Marketplace!

Axie Infinity × CoinGecko Item!

March 2019 - The instructions for claiming the CoinGecko land item NFT from our collaboration with CoinGecko was released, allowing players to claim their NFT.

Land Market Open!

May 2019 - We announced the first iteration of the land plot marketplace, allowing Lunacians to buy and sell land plots.

Axie Partners With MakerDAO!

June 2019 - Axie Infinity teamed up with MakerDAO! For a limited time, CDP owners were able to claim unique DAI-themed Axie NFTs! The Maker Foundation has also graciously agreed to bestow DAI upon some of the finest Axie trainers.

Axie Xmas Surprise!

December 2019 - We delivered on your wishes for a new breeding event as a “Xmas Surprise” for 2019. With a larger community, a new application, and a reformed breeding system, we thought it would be great to do the second Xmas breeding event ever!

Community Alpha is Live!

December 2019 - We were delighted to announce that the Axie Application Community Alpha was ready to go! Anyone who owned 3 axies or more could access the Alpha and try the game in the first phases.

December 2019 - One of axie’s distinguishing factors is our beautiful and beloved artwork. We are always looking for ways to make axies more entrancing and eye-catching since we believe that cuteness can be a major factor in bringing blockchain to everyday people. December 2019 - We launched a major upgrade to our marketplace! The marketplace is a crucial element of our ecosystem. Without a seamless marketplace, we cannot bring the benefits of blockchain to our player-base.

2020

Announcing: PvP Arena Season 1 with Token Rewards!

February 2020 - We announced the first PvP season with 1,500 DAI in rewards. The introduction of DAI added an element of stability to the token rewards that players could earn through gameplay.

Axie Loom Validator Shut Down

March 2020 - We shut down our Loom Validator and migrated Land Plots and other items to a new scaling solution over the coming months.

Introducing Ronin: Axie Infinity's Ethereum Sidechain

June 2020 - We announced our work on Ronin — an Ethereum-linked sidechain made specifically for Axie Infinity. A Ronin was a samurai without a master in feudal Japan and Ronin represents our desire to take the destiny of our product into our own hands.

AXS Strategic Sale!

November 2020 - We announced that Axie Infinity has raised $860,000 through a strategic sale of our governance token, AXS, led by Delphi Digital. AXS holders will shape the future of Axie Infinity by signaling their support for upgrades to the ecosystem and direct the usage of the Community Treasury.

Axie Infinity Integrates Chainlink Oracles!

November 2020 - We shared that we’ve completed integration of Chainlink decentralized price feeds! In addition, we started using Chainlink Verifiable Randomness Function (VRF) to introduce provably fair random elements into the Axie universe, first with Axie Origin Coins (AOC).

Axie Infinity × Aave!

November 2020 - Axie Infinity has begun the cooperation with the Aave team. First and foremost, the Aave team had stepped up to sponsor Season 13 of the Axie Community Alpha! Axie players did duke it out for over 4,000 USD in AAVE tokens.

AXS Listed on Binance!

November 2020 - AXS, the Axie Infinity governance token, has been listed on Binance! This is a landmark moment for the Axie community in our quest to empower millions of gamers.

Ronin Public Testnet Release!

December 2020 - We announced the release of the testnet for Ronin. We’ve also launched a bug bounty program with AXS rewards for our Community Developers to help ensure Ronin is ready for Mainnet launch!

The testnet was later named Saigon, and is still used to this day for developers to test building on Ronin.

Merry AXmaS!

December 2020 - To celebrate our best year yet, we rewarded 10,000 AXS across the top 200 players on the leaderboard!

Axie Land Demo Is Live!

December 2020 - A very very early build of land gameplay (Project K) was made available for a limited time for all landholders!

Project K was later named Axie Infinity: Homeland, and has received multiple updates to date. Buy a land plot and play Homeland today!

2021

Ronin Mainnet Launch!

February 2021 - After a few years, Axie Infinity finally found it's permanent home in the blockchain space with the launch of the Ronin network's Mainnet. This opened up the migration of Axie Infinity assets from the Ethereum network to the Ronin network.

This opened up the migration for land plots and land items, with axies coming later down the line.

Ronin Marketplace Launch!

February 2021 - The first iteration of the Marketplace for Axie Infinity assets on the Ronin network has launched! This allowed users to trade their collectibles with one another on Axie Infinity's new home network.

The Great Migration to Ronin is Live!

April 2021 - Axies can finally come home to the Ronin network! Axie migration has officially opened up, allowing users to migrate their beloved axies from the Ethereum network to the Ronin network.

May 2021 - You can now buy ETH with fiat on Ronin through our partnership with Ramp! This is a major step towards making Axie accessible to the entire world. Other tokens and onramp partners were also added since then.

Axie #1,000,000 & New TOS Clarification Set for Breeding Events!

June 2021 - On this moment, we passed an amazing landmark. The 1 millionth axie was born! Although the birth of the axie was controversial, this is an important milestone for Lunacians as it signifies that the nation is growing.

Due to the controversial method used to breed the axie, the ToS was also amended to prohibit the use of bots for breeding events.

August 2021 - The Welcome Portal was launched, built to make it easier for new trainers to get started with Axie. It guides the new trainer through each step in the process of making an Axie account.

Lunar New Year Event: All Aboard the Lunacian Express!

January 2022 - For Lunar New Year 2022, the Lunacian Express was first opened, allowing players to send their axies away for various rewards during a specific period of time. This included exclusive Lunar New Year-inspired land items, as well as a raffle for 5 AOC token and rare land items. This is Axie Infinity's first experiment in Axie Releasing.

RON Is Live!

January 2022 - RON is live, allowing users to start claiming the RON they earned from staking their liquidity pool pairings in Katana. RON is the governance token for the Ronin blockchain and its main purpose is to secure and decentralize the network.

R0N1N-21 Airdrops!

Introducing: Account Management Site

March 2022 - In preparation for Origins, a new account service site was released. The new account service site allows users to connect their existing Axie Infinity account to their Gmail, Facebook, or Apple ID account, allowing them to log in using those account in the future.

Sky Mavis accounts are used in various Axie Infinity games, including Axie Infinity: Classic and Origins, as well as other Ronin games.

December 2022 - Axie Core is the Axie experience that is eternal and not tied to one particular game; it’s the universal Axie experience and aesthetic. The goal of Axie core is to strengthen the emotional bond between you and your axies. This is buttressed by the way axies have on-chain genetic code that can be permanently altered through on-chain actions.

December 2022 - We introduced the first alpha release of Axie Infinity: Homeland! June 2023 - The first iteration of Land Delegation is introduced, allowing land owners to lend their land plots to other players, allowing players with no land plots to play Homeland.

Axie Experience Points (AXP) are Here!

July 2023 - Axie Experience Points [AXP], the foundation of Axie Core, is introduced. Axies are now dynamic on-chain NFTs that can be improved with time, effort, and skill. AXP can be used to level up your axies on-chain through a process called ascension, which then gives way for part evolution later on.

AXP was first included in Axie Infinity: Origins, then later introduced in other Axie experiences/games as well. Play games with your axie to start leveling them up!

Introducing: the Genkai Mint on Ronin's Mavis Market

July 2023 - CyberKongz Genkai mint is introduced for the Ronin Network. This allows users on the Ronin network to mint Genkais through the Mavis Market.

Axie Origin Coin (AOC) Tokens Migration to Ronin

January 2024 - All remaining AOC tokens [now called Atia Original Crystal] on Ethereum migrated to Ronin on January 22nd, with a 1:1 migration from your Ethereum wallet address to the corresponding wallet address on Ronin.

If you had some AOC tokens in your Ethereum wallet, you don't have to do anything. Your AOC tokens would be automatically migrated, and you'll just have to import your Ethereum wallet into the Ronin Wallet app to access your AOC tokens.

January 2024 - SLP supply is capped at 44 billion! For every 10 SLP burned, 2 SLP will be minted to a buyback & stability fund. We have seeded the stability fund with 60,000 USDC. Modern central banking targets 2% inflation, so we target 2% deflation for SLP.

Ronin Prefix Transition

January 2024 - To increase our Ethereum alignment, the default prefix used on Ronin address has been changed from ronin: to 0x. Using the ronin: prefix will still work though, so with this change, you can use your .ron name, addresses with an 0x prefix, or addresses with a ronin: prefix when interacting with Ronin dApps.

This feature allowed Lunacians to delegate their governance influence to other community members with just a few clicks, empowering users to participate in the ecosystem's decision-making process even if they prefer not to vote directly.

AXS Staking Revamp

November 2025 - A revamp of the AXS Staking reward distribution was announced. To ensure long-term sustainability, rewards will now decrease by 5% every 9 days, a model chosen to allow staking to continue indefinitely. Additionally, a new incentive experiment is set for January 2026, which will introduce rewards specifically for Lunacians with high Axie Scores through a series of snapshots and airdrops.

The Codex Accessory Design Contest is LIVE!

November 2025 - The first Community Accessory Design Contest was held, inviting Lunacians to design Axie accessories for a chance to win up to 200 AXS. Entries were accepted in various formats, including digital, 3D, and hand-drawn art. Winning designs were selected based on originality and consistency with the Axie universe, with the potential to be integrated as official on-chain items within The Codex.

Voting for AIP-003 is LIVE!

November 2025 - AIP-003 went live for voting, proposing to stake the Axie Treasury’s Ethereum (WETH) holdings to generate native yield. The proposal aimed to deploy idle ETH into industry-leading liquid staking protocols, including Lido (wstETH), Rocket Pool (rETH), and Coinbase (cbETH), allowing the Treasury to earn rewards while maintaining liquidity for future ecosystem initiatives.

Dream Temple’s Axie Maxi Tee Collection is LIVE!

December 2025 - Axie Infinity collaborated with the lifestyle brand Dream Temple to release an exclusive "Axie Maxi" tee. The premium, limited-edition collection was capped at only 300 units and priced at $50 USD. Available for purchase with RON, USDC, or cash on Dream Temple's website, the collaboration celebrated Axie OGs and the long-standing belief in Web3 gaming.

Axie and Ragnarok are joining forces in Axie Dungeon!

December 2025 - The Axie Dungeon launched in Ragnarok Online Landverse as a limited-time crossover event (Dec 4 – Jan 8). Players could enter the dungeon via "Professor A" in Prontera to battle slimes and axies for rewards including RON and Axie Coins, which were uniquely exchangeable for actual Axie NFTs.

Axie Classic World Cup Solos

December 2025 - The Axie Classic World Cup Solos reached its grand finale. The tournament brought together twelve finalists who emerged from hundreds of competitive battles throughout the year to compete on a global stage for a share of a 7,500 AXS prize pool. The final stage was streamed live on December 7, marking a significant milestone for individual competitive play in the Axie Classic circuit.

December 2025 - The Axie Classic World Cup Guilds concluded, featuring a high-stakes competition between four of the ecosystem's strongest guilds. Eight teams battled for a 12,500 AXS prize pool and the world title. The final stage was streamed live on Sunday, December 14, following the Solos World Cup.

Voting for AIP-004 is LIVE!

December 2025 - AIP-004 went into voting, proposing that the Axie Treasury stake its substantial holdings of AXS and RON. Building on the success of the ETH staking proposal (AIP-003), this initiative aimed to secure additional revenue streams for the ecosystem by activating idle assets.

Animated Axie Hangouts Background

December 2025 - Axie Hangouts introduced its first-ever animated backgrounds. To celebrate the launch, players could unlock the limited-edition "Nice List Starfall" Christmas-themed background by ranking in the Top 1,000 on the weekly Bounty Board between December 22 and December 28. This exclusive cosmetic also featured a toggleable animation setting, allowing users to "freeze" or animate the snowy effect on App.Axie.

Atia's Legacy Badges are LIVE on App.Axie!

December 2025 - Two exclusive Atia’s Legacy Badges were released on App.Axie to commemorate the game's first playtest. The Playtest Participant badge was awarded to all users who joined the inaugural test in September, while the prestigious Atia’s Top 100 badge was reserved for those who secured a spot on the competitive leaderboard.

7 other badges related to special Axie Body types and Land Items were added as well.

Moku Mini Accessories came to Lunacia!

January 2026 - Six limited-edition Moku Mini accessories made their way to Lunacia. Players secured these exclusive accessories by opening Grand Arena Booster Box on Ronin Market, and will be able to see them in the upcoming Atia’s Legacy Playtest 2. A special raffle was also held, giving players the chance to win an ultra-rare Ratz Fairy accessory.

SLP emissions in Origins ceased 

January 2026 - SLP emissions in Origins officially ceased starting January 7. The reward structure had created an opportunity for automated farming, and it was determined that allowing this to continue would negatively impact the long-term economy. While emissions were halted, depositing SLP for crafting and morphing remained fully operational.

The Bounty Board Rewards Update

February 2026 - Bounty Board leaderboard rewards were increased from 5,200 to 15,000 AXS, while leaderboard eligibility was expanded from the top 1,000 to the top 3,000 players. The general reward pool was also adjusted from 16,000 to 7,000 AXS distributed proportionally among the Top 3,000.

A new token came to Axie!

February 2026 — Axie's evolution was revealed with the introduction of bAXS, Terrariums, and two upcoming airdrops. The AXS token, which had powered the ecosystem for years, was slated to become exchangeable for a new in-game apptoken called Bonded AXS (bAXS). This new token was designed to be backed 1:1 with AXS for core activities like breeding and staking, though it remained non-transferable outside the ecosystem.

Additionally, a new land-based gameplay called Terrariums was announced to replace Homeland and emit bAXS rewards, alongside two scheduled bAXS airdrops for eligible AXS stakers.

February 2026 - A new experimental format called Atia’s Lab Log was introduced to keep the community closer to the development process. The first update was released to gather feedback and keep Lunacians in the loop regarding the latest behind-the-scenes progress.

bAXS is LIVE! 

February 2026 - Axie entered a new phase as bAXS officially went live. Bonded AXS became fully usable, stakeable, and integrated into Axie Core.

It was also announced that the first bAXS airdrop would be taking place in the following days, and all the necessary details to be eligible were shared with the community.

bAXS Airdrop 1 is complete! 

February 2026 - The first bAXS airdrop was successfully completed, allowing eligible users to check and claim their allocations. Players were able to start using their bAXS to evolve axies, mint Runes and Charms, stake to earn AXS, and participate in other ecosystem activities. A pro-tip was also shared, encouraging users to stake their bAXS to boost their staking weight ahead of the Airdrop 2 snapshot.

March 2026 - Bounty Board rewards officially went live in bAXS. Players were reminded that bAXS had the same utility as AXS within Axie Core, allowing them to stake, breed, forge, and more. Going forward, all previous AXS earned from Bounty Board rewards became claimable directly on the Claim Tokens page.

Homeland rewards switched to bAXS 

March 2026 - All rewards in Homeland officially switched from AXS to bAXS, effective Monday, March 23 at 00:00 UTC. Any Ancient Coins that had already been redeemed remained as claimable AXS on the App.Axie Claim Token page, while any Ancient Coins remaining unredeemed at the time of the update and all rewards earned moving forward were claimed as bAXS.

Atia's Legacy Playtest 2 Launched April 8!

April 2026 - Lunacians prepared for a major gameplay shift with the announcement of Atia’s Legacy Playtest 2. This update introduced single axie control, five brand-new weapons, and a high-stakes "Risk-it-all" Extraction Dungeon. Players were encouraged to pre-register to secure their spot, with official invite details scheduled for release.
