Governance in Axie Infinity is about giving the Lunacian community a voice in making decisions in the ecosystem. This system ensures that players who stake AXS tokens and contribute the most to the ecosystem have more influence on its future.
The goal is to gradually shift control to the community, making Axie Infinity more democratic and fair for everyone involved.
Voting Portal
The Axie Voting Portal is a platform where community members can participate in important decisions about the future of Axie Infinity. You use the portal to vote on various proposals, such as changes to the game, governance elections, and allocation of community resources.
To access the voting portal, login to https://app.axieinfinity.com/governance and make sure that your wallet is connected. Remember, you first need to have staked your AXS tokens before you are able to select the topic you want to vote on. Your voting power is determined by the amount of AXS you have staked and your Axie Score, which reflects your contributions to the community.
In the current iteration, proposals can only be created by Sky Mavis based on community feedback and sentiments.
How to Vote
Step 1: On the Voting Portal page, you’ll be able to see proposals that are open for voting. To learn more about a specific proposal you’re interested in voting on, click the View Details button.
Step 2: You’ll be directed to a page showing the details of the proposal. Once you reviewed the proposal, you can cast your vote by clicking the Cast Your Vote button.
Step 3: Select your vote for the proposal, then click Submit Vote. Sign the transaction with your wallet to confirm your vote.
Congratulations! You have casted your vote. You will know the results of the proposal once the voting period ends. You will then see your vote on the proposal’s page.
You can also check all the voters and their respective voting power on the proposal page, below the proposal description.
Proposal Status
The status of the proposal shows when there’s a pending snapshot for the calculation of voting power, when users can vote on proposals, as well as the results of the proposal.
- Awaiting for Snapshot - Means there’s a pending snapshot for the proposal. Once the snapshot is taken, voting will commence.
- Voting in Progress - Means that users could currently cast a vote in the proposal.
- Passed - Means that the proposal has received a majority of affirmative votes and will be executed.
- Rejected - Means that the proposal has received a majority of disapproving votes and will not proceed.
Voting Power
Voting Power in Axie Infinity governance is a measure of how much influence you have when voting on proposals in the Voting Portal. It is determined by two main factors: the amount of AXS tokens you have staked and your Axie Score, which reflects your contributions to the ecosystem. The more AXS you stake and the higher your Axie Score, the greater your voting power. This system ensures that AXS holders and active community members have a stronger voice in shaping the future of Axie Infinity.
Your current Voting Power is shown on the Voting Portal page. This is your voting power based on the amount of AXS you currently have staked as well as the badges you currently hold.
When a voting period for a proposal is about to start, a snapshot of your Voting Power will be taken and will be the value used for your vote in the proposal. You can see your Voting Power for a specific proposal on the proposal’s details page.
How is the Voting Power calculated?
Voting power is calculated based on your AXS Staked and Axie Score. The more AXS you have staked and the greater your contributions to the ecosystem, the higher your Voting Power. Your Voting Power is calculated using this formula:
In this formula, axsWeightModifier and axieWeightModifier are used to adjust the Voting Power calculation in case one of the values causes imbalance to the voting system. axsWeightModifier can range from 1 to 2. The higher the number, the greater the weight of AXS staking on determining the value of the Voting Score.
Currently, axsWeightModifier is set to 1.5 and axieWeightModifier is set to 0.1.
If you are seeing two red lines in the Current Voting Power within a proposal page, it means that you did not have any AXS staked during the snapshot and cannot vote for that proposal.
AXS Staked
AXS Staked is based on the amount of AXS you have staked, and is the base value of your voting power. If you don’t have any AXS staked, you won’t have any voting power.
You may check our AXS Staking article to learn how to stake AXS.
Axie Score
Axie Score is based on your achievements and contributions in the Axie Infinity community. This is calculated using the badges that you own, which you can get based on your in-game performance, your contributions to the Treasury and the community, as well as the Axie NFTs you currently hold.
To learn more about the badges, you may check our Lunacian Badges article. Your Axie Score greatly increases your voting power based on your AXS stake.
You can see the breakdown of how you got that score by clicking the information icon next to your Axie Score.
Each badge gives you a specific amount of Axie Score, depending on it's impact/contribution to the community. There are also certain badges that give 0 Axie Score due to their ease of attainment.
Collectible axies and land plots also gives an increasing amount of Axie Score depending on the number you currently have. For example, having 2 Mystic axies gives double the amount of Axie Score compared to having just 1.
Proposal Results
After the voting period ends, the results are tallied to determine if the proposal has passed or failed. The total votes are displayed, along with the breakdown of how many votes were for or against the proposal.
Quorum is the minimum number of staked AXS votes required for the proposal to be valid. If the quorum is not met, the proposal does not proceed, regardless of the voting outcome.
This is an example of the proposal that didn’t meet the quorum. Only 2.5 million staked AXS participated in the vote, which is below the required quorum of 5.3 million staked AXS. This means the proposal does not proceed.
This is an example of the proposal that met the quorum. 12 million staked AXS participated in the vote, which is above the required quorum of 5.3 million staked AXS. This means the proposal proceeds based on the voting outcome.
If a proposal passes: the results are announced to the community, detailing the outcome and any actions to be taken to which the development team and relevant stakeholders will start working on implementing.
If a proposal fails: the proposal may be reviewed and revised based on feedback before potentially being re-submitted for future voting. If the governance decides that no revisions are necessary, the proposal is archived.
