Axie Classic is evolving to make gameplay more accessible than ever. With the new Starter Mode, you can dive into the exciting world of Axie without the need for NFT ownership. This mode offers new players a streamlined way to experience Axie Classic's strategic battles and unique charm.
In this guide, we'll walk you through everything you need to know to get started with Starter Mode, from setting up your account to assembling your team—all without the complexities of blockchain or crypto wallets. Get ready to unleash your competitive spirit and enjoy Axie Classic like never before!
Onboarding with Starter Mode
Step 1: On mobile, when you first launch Axie Classic, you'll be asked to log in.
- If you already have an account, you can log in directly with your email address and password.
- If you don't have an account yet, you can press the Ronin Waypoint button to go to the Ronin Waypoint page and sign up for an account.
- NOTE: If you are on desktop, there won't be a log in screen as the game will use the account information from the Mavis Hub.

Step 2: After logging in, you will be presented with a welcome screen. Tap/click anywhere on the screen to continue.
Step 3: You can choose up to 2 classes that will determine your Starter axie team. You may also click on the classes to learn more about the advantages of choosing that class. Once you are satisfied with your selection, click Next.
Step 4: Pick your dream team! You will be asked to choose from a pool of trial Axie teams with which you will be able to play and experience your first battles. Once you have chosen, click on Select Team.
Step 5: Confirm your team selection by clicking the Let’s Go button.
Congratulations! You have your first axie team and can start battling in the Arena.
Starter Mode Limitations
As Starter mode is a mode without the Web3 elements of Axie Classic, there are several limitations to playing in this mode:
- You will only have one axie team. You can change the positioning of the axies in your team but you cannot change axies or team.
- The free team might be removed from your account if you don’t play the game for 3 days.
- You will not be able to access some Web3 features, such as:
- Guilds
- Seasonal Battle Pass
- SLP Session of Cursed Coliseum
- SLP/AXS reward slots in Golden Wheel
- SLP/AXS rewards from Private Tournaments
- Mini Tournament
How to Switch to Guardian Mode
Ready to delve into Web3 and experience Axie Classic’s Web3 features? But first, we need to understand that in order to play the Web3 version, we need to have 3 NFT axies to play with. The following satisfies the requirement for you to be able to upgrade:
Once you have your own or delegated axies, you can switch to Guardian Mode to experience everything Axie Classic has to offer. Here’s how:
Step 1: To upgrade to Guardian Mode and use Web3 features, go to Settings and click on the Upgrade to Guardian Mode button.
Step 2: A Warning prompt will show and provide details of what you will be getting once you upgrade your account to the Web3 version. Click Upgrade to complete.
WARNING: Once you have upgraded your game account to the Web3 version, there is no turning back. You will lose the free axie team provided to you and will have to play with your own or delegated axies instead.
