Devolution is the process of reverting an axie’s upgraded part to its previous stage, through the use of Dark Flame. Devolving can be a strategic move, allowing you to switch the upgraded parts of an axie and experiment with different gameplay approaches.
Devolution is also helpful in mechanics such as the Wings of Nightmare, where you have a chance to get a special part when evolving. Devolution allows you to devolve an axie if you didn’t get the special part, allowing you to try again.
This guide will walk you through the entire process of devolving an Axie, explaining when and why you might choose to do it, and the steps needed to transform your Axie back to its earlier state.
Devolution Utilities
While you generally want to keep an axie’s part evolved, due to the benefits an evolved part provides such as stronger stats in games, devolving an axie’s parts has its uses as well.
- Aesthetics: If you bought an evolved axie but you prefer the unevolved appearance of a specific part, you can use devolution to revert that part to the Stage 1 appearance.
- Gameplay Modifications: The number of evolved parts an axie can have is limited to their current level. Devolution allows you to devolve a part to evolve a different part, allowing you to modify/change your axie’s upgraded cards/stats without waiting for another evolution slot to open up through leveling up.
- Special Benefits: For mechanics that have a chance-based result from evolution, such as the Wings of Nightmare, devolution allows you to devolve the part and try the evolution again if you failed to get the desired outcome on your previous attempts.
Part Devolution Requirements
In order to devolve an axie’s part, you need to have a consumable item called Dark Flame. Each devolution requires one Dark Flame, so if you are looking to devolve multiple parts, you’re going to need multiple Dark Flames.
Dark Flame can be obtained by either:
- Forging it through The Forge, using 2 Premium Cocochocos, 50 Aquatic Mementos, and 100 Plant Mementos. You will also need a Level 30 or above Collectible axie as the forger.
- Purchasing it directly from the App.Axie Marketplace.
Devolve Your Axie
Once you have the requirements, it’s time to devolve your axie.
Step 1: On the Axie’s details page, click on Use Consumable, then choose Dark Flame.
Step 2: Select the part that you want to devolve, then click on Confirm and confirm the transaction with your wallet.
NOTE: You can only devolve one part at a time.
Step 3: After a few seconds, you’ll get a confirmation message and you’ll be able to see your devolved axie shortly.
Devolving from Inventory
You can also devolve an axie through the Consumables page in your Inventory. To do so:
Step 1: Hover over the Dark Flame item and click on Use consumables.
Step 2: Select the axie that you want to devolve, then click on Select part.
NOTE: You can only devolve one axie and one part at a time.
Step 3: Choose the part that you want to devolve, then click on Confirm and confirm the transaction with your wallet.
Step 4: After a few seconds, you’ll get a confirmation message and you’ll be able to see your devolved axie shortly.
